Maximum Award: $5,000

The fact that succeeding generations of leaders will inherit the responsibility of solving critical community issues highlights the importance of developing new leadership. Jack and Jill of America Foundation believes solutions initiated and promoted by the communities they affect have greater long-term value than those created outside the community. The Foundation’s Independent Grant embraces this notion of community self-determination by offering funding for leadership development and training initiatives that a community believes best fit the needs of its youth.

How to Apply

To apply for a Foundation grant, an application must be submitted. A complete application consists of an Application Coversheet, a proposal, and any required documents by the due date of December 1.

Letters of support from community leaders demonstrating that the proposed program has not only been acknowledged by the local community but has also been adopted as a community solution are critical in the grant renewal review process. Furthermore, proposals under this category must demonstrate that they have planned their project with respect to a community’s overall leadership development and training needs.

Can be demostrated byviewing local official’s websites, i.e. mayor’s office and county council office to see the needs of the local community.

Renewals

After the first year of the grant has expired, this grant may be renewed for up to two additional one-year periods. However, for such a renewal to take place, an abbreviated application (consisting of an Application Coversheet, a year-end evaluation report, an original proposal and budget) must be submitted for review and approval.  Funding is contingent upon availability of funds.
